Wow, okay? Just wow. That’s really all I have to say. But if you know me at all, you know me better than that, so here goes:
Wilson’s dating Amber. House, according to Wilson, was “intimate” with Cate in some way (the little stripping/bonding thingy over the webcam). Cate then, in turn, winds up with a dude with a limp. The parallels are obvious and obviously intentional. (Amber = House; Cate = Wilson in all his psychoanalytic glory.)
Wilson has “sealed the deal” with Amber. House was “intimate” with Cate. This is the slashiest slash that ever slashed without being blatant canon. I’ve never seen this level of subtext-almost-text ever without the resultant payoff. And now, standing nearly on the precipice, I’m not sure I want it, but that’s just my own weird psychological quirk, I guess – and the worry that the religious right will make it the end of the series through protests/boycotts/general stupidity.
Also, this? “It can’t be Cuddy. You’re straight.” Um hello. Isn’t it basic canon that there has been some Huddy action in the past? Ahem. If you have to be gay to date Cuddy, and House has dated/slept with Cuddy, then what does that make House? (Here’s a hint for those of you who either failed or didn’t take logic: not straight.)
Also, is the implication that Cuddy is manly? Because for one thing I feel she really makes an effort to be feminine in dress if not in demeanor; and for another, House is really only making a case for his own non-heterosexuality here, given the frequent references he makes to her butt/legs/breasts/whatever. Out of all the characters on the show, I would say that House has shown the most blatant sexuality toward Cuddy. So what is he really saying about his own sexuality here?
(For the record, I realize the penultimate sentence in the previous paragraph might be upsetting to some House/Wilson ‘shippers. Let me explain what I mean. While I do think there’s a potential for a sexual relationship between House and Wilson, I feel that the starting point for anything like that would be their deep friendship. There is definitely an opening for sex between the two of them, but I really feel that the root of it would be – good Lord, I’m a sap, shoot me now – their already existing love and friendship. On the show, House and Wilson’s interactions center on banter, philosophy, and occasionally love. House and Cuddy, on the other hand, have a distinct sexual tension, with all the discussion of body parts and so on.)
Also, on next week’s revelation: “Oh my God, you’re sleeping with me!”:
Okay, bear with me here for a minute. Usually, when House makes a claim about Wilson’s love life, Wilson is up in arms, contradicting, arguing, exploring. But when House makes this connection, Wilson doesn’t really contradict him and House doesn’t stick around to talk about it. It reeks of freak out.
You know what I want for Valentine’s Day? BGW. And also, BGH. Doris Egan, I know it's a tall order, but will you please be my valentine? XD
